I do it the old fashioned way. I get down on my knees and bend over until my head is about even with the sight glass then slowly pull the bike toward me until it just balances. The oil level should rise as you tip the bike until it is in the top hald of the glass. If it tips a bit toward me the oil level goes over the top of the sight glass. It's easiest to read when the engine is cold. When it's warm or the bike has been tipped to the right, a film of oil covers the glass and makes it more difficult to see the oil level. If you're afraid to tip the bike yourself, have your hubby help you, it will make him feel useful.
